Virginia Audubon Council Member Pages

The Virginia Audubon Council (VAC) shall exist as a vehicle for the expression of the "Audubon Cause" on environmental issues and legislation and for the furtherance of chapter development and interchapter coordination within the Commonwealth of Virginia. The purpose of the Council shall be to engage in any such educational, scientific and investigative, literary, historical, philanthropic, and charitable pursuit as may be part of the state purpose of the National Audubon Society.

The Council is in the process of starting a state Audubon office. Chapter members and other interested National Audubon members are encouraged to help the Council in this important effort. For more information, please e-mail the VAC Webmaster.

Proposed Council Meeting Dates for 2005:
1/22: Randolph Macon College, Ashland
 4/16: Kilmarnock
 7/16: Fairfax Audubon, Packard Center
 10/15: Blandy Farm

The Council completed Phase 1 of the Important Bird Area Program for Virginia. IBAs are sites that provide essential habitat for one or more species of bird. The three new Virginia IBAs are Great Dismal Swamp NWR, Saxis Wildlife Management Area and Piney Grove Preserve. For more information visit the new Virginia IBA Web pages.

Randolph Macon College, Ashland, Virginia.

The first meeting of the Council in 2005 will take place in room 303 of the Copley Science Center at Randolph Macon College.  Directions to the college and a campus map are available at http://www.rmc.edu/address.asp.  This is a critical meeting as it will be the Council's first opportunity to meet our new Virginia Important Bird Area coordinator, Aimee Weldon.

Henry Clay Inn, Ashland, Virginia. 

The meeting will take place in the large conference room of the Henry Clay Inn.  The room is on the first floor of the Inn, to the left as you enter the main door. Let's plan to start at 9 with coffee/pastry, start the business meeting at 9:30, have lunch in the conference room around 12, resume meeting after lunch, and adjourn around 2:30 pm.
