Audubon advocates policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate adaptation strategies that protect birds, and energy allocation policies and practices that allow the use of renewable energy with minimal impact on birds and their habitats. We protect birds and the places they need across the hemisphere. From coast to coast, Audubon branches work year-round to protect birds and save habitat. The work done by chapter members in hundreds of communities has resulted in successful conservation legislation, bird counts and habitat restoration.
The Buffalo Audubon Society eliminated all invasive species and replaced them with native species in Joseph Davis State Park. Protecting waterbird populations has been part of Audubon's mission even before the official creation of the National Audubon Society. The National Audubon Society protects birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow, across the Americas through science, promotion, education and conservation on the ground. The Audubon Society of West Volusia was actively involved in seeking support for the Florida Water and Land Heritage Amendment.
The Audubon Society of Central Texas participated with the Cameron Park Zoo, the City of Waco, Nemmer Electric, Reliant Energy, Coyote Security and the Lake Waco Corps of Engineers to erect a 40-foot eagle tower to nest bald eagles in Lake Waco. While the National Audubon Society is known for its long-standing commitment to birds, the challenges to the region's biodiversity affect much more than birds. He raised public awareness about the creation of the Sacajawea Audubon Society and organized a letter-writing campaign and public testimony at the city commission hearings in Bozeman, Montana, to help obtain approval for the creation of a community park.
